Troops of the 1 Brigade have arrested two suspected terrorist collaborators during a stop-and-search operation at a military checkpoint in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspects were apprehended at about 11:49 p.m. on June 26 by troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Jangeme checkpoint while conducting routine security screening.

According to the sources, the suspects aroused the suspicion of the troops during the checkpoint operation and were taken into custody for questioning.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the two individuals were suspected of collaborating with terrorist groups operating in parts of Zamfara State.

Military sources disclosed that an initial forensic examination of the suspects’ mobile phones uncovered several images and materials allegedly depicting terrorist-related activities, further strengthening suspicions of their involvement with criminal elements.

During the operation, troops also recovered one motorcycle believed to have been used by the suspects, along with two mobile phones, which have been retained as exhibits for further digital exploitation.

The suspects remain in military custody as intelligence operatives continue interrogations to determine the extent of their involvement, identify other collaborators and uncover possible links to terrorist cells operating within the North-West.

Military authorities said the arrest reflects ongoing intelligence-driven efforts to dismantle terrorist support networks by targeting informants, logistics providers and collaborators who facilitate the activities of armed groups across Zamfara State.
