Troops of Counter-Insurgency Battalion VII (CIB VII) have neutralised two suspected terrorists and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition during an offensive operation in Arewa Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was carried out at about 3:40 p.m. on June 27 following intelligence on the activities of armed terrorists operating around Saburumowa Village.
According to the sources, the troops launched a deliberate offensive into the area, where they made contact with the armed terrorists, resulting in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The superior firepower of the troops overwhelmed the criminals, leading to the neutralisation of two terrorists, while other members of the group fled into the surrounding bush with varying degrees of injuries.
A subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, nine AK-47 magazines loaded with a total of 143 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, as well as one motorcycle believed to have been used by the terrorists for movement during their operations.
Military sources described the operation as part of sustained offensive efforts to dismantle terrorist cells and deny criminal groups freedom of action across Kebbi State and the wider North-West region.
The sources added that troops have continued pursuit operations to track down the fleeing terrorists and recover additional weapons, while maintaining dominance patrols to protect communities from further attacks.
