Troops of Sector 1 of Operation Enduring Peace have arrested two suspected vandals and recovered suspected stolen metal rods during a stop-and-search operation in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau.
Security sources said the suspects were apprehended in the early hours of June 7 at a security checkpoint in Latya area of the local government.
The sources identified the suspects as Mr Davour David, 38, and Justice Pirfa, 39.
According to the sources, troops attached to Sub-Sector 12 intercepted a white Daihatsu Hijet vehicle with registration number LAG APP 903 XP during a routine stop-and-search operation.
A search conducted on the vehicle led to the discovery of metal rods suspected to have been stolen and loaded in the vehicle.
“The troops immediately arrested the two occupants of the vehicle on suspicion of vandalism and unlawful possession of the items,” the sources said.
The suspects and the recovered metal rods were subsequently moved to the troops’ location in Latya for preliminary investigation and further necessary action.
Security officials said investigations were ongoing to determine the source and ownership of the recovered materials as well as the possible involvement of the suspects in vandalism activities within the area.
The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to protect critical infrastructure and curb criminal activities across Plateau State.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing useful information that could assist security agencies in identifying and apprehending individuals involved in vandalism and other criminal acts.
