Troops of the 103 Battalion (Marine) under the Joint Task Force South-South, Operation Delta Safe (OPDS), have uncovered an illegal refining site and recovered stolen crude oil during an anti-illegal bunkering operation in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation, conducted between 2:30 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. on July 11, led to the discovery of the illegal refining site in the Orashi Forest within Ogbogolo Community.

During the operation, troops recovered six sacks containing an estimated 300 litres of stolen crude oil.

The recovered products and the illegal refining site were handled in accordance with the operational mandate of Operation Delta Safe to combat crude oil theft and illegal refining activities in the Niger Delta.

Security authorities said operations against oil theft syndicates and economic saboteurs would continue across the region to protect the nation’s critical oil infrastructure.
