Troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison, Operation HADIN KAI, have discovered and safely disposed of an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by suspected terrorists in a farming area of the Sambisa Forest in Borno State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the device was discovered at about 9:50 a.m. on July 15 during a fighting patrol at the Dagari area of the Sambisa Forest in Bama Local Government Area.

According to the sources, the IED had been buried by suspected terrorists, apparently to target troops or unsuspecting civilians, including farmers returning to cultivate their farmlands.

The troops immediately secured the area and successfully disposed of the explosive device in situ in accordance with established explosive ordnance disposal procedures, eliminating the threat without incident.

Military sources said the operation forms part of ongoing clearance and counter-improvised explosive device (C-IED) efforts under Operation HADIN KAI to make liberated communities and farming areas safe for civilian activities.

They added that troops have continued aggressive patrols and route clearance operations across the North-East to detect and neutralise explosive threats planted by terrorists.
