Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have foiled an attack on commuters along a rural road in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 4:38 p.m. on April 8 when troops of Sector 4, deployed to Kura, responded to distress calls over an attack along the Razat–Kafi Abu villages road.
On sighting the troops, the assailants reportedly abandoned their operation and fled the area.
“The criminals fled immediately troops arrived, preventing further harm to commuters along the route,” a source said.
During exploitation of the area, troops discovered the corpse of one civilian, while two other victims were found with gunshot wounds.
The injured were evacuated alongside the deceased to the General Hospital in Barkin Ladi.
Security has since been reinforced in the area, with troops maintaining patrols to deter further attacks and reassure residents.
Barkin Ladi and surrounding communities have experienced recurring security challenges, prompting sustained military presence under Operation Enduring Peace.
