Troops Foil Banditry Attack, Arrest Two Suspects in Taraba
Troops of 6 Brigade, Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), have successfully thwarted a planned banditry attack in the southern part of Taraba State. Acting on credible intelligence, the troops apprehended two suspects and recovered weapons during the operation.
The operation, conducted on December 11, 2024, was launched after receiving information about an impending attack targeting villages near Adu and the Chachanji market. The suspects, identified as Terry Waapara and Tobaya Tekura, were arrested while attempting to infiltrate the market, allegedly to carry out kidnapping and other criminal activities.
Items recovered from the suspects include two AK-47 rifles, two AK-47 magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
The Commander of 6 Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops for their swift and professional response, which prevented potential casualties and property damage.
“We remain resolute in our commitment to combating terrorism, banditry, and all forms of criminality. I urge citizens to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information,” Brigadier General Uwa said.
The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation to identify their network and collaborators.
The Nigerian Army has assured residents of Taraba State of its continued vigilance and dedication to ensuring peace and security in the region.
