Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have foiled a cattle rustling attack in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State following a midnight assault by suspected armed bandits.
Security sources said the incident occurred on June 5 at about 0007 hours when heavily armed bandits on motorcycles invaded Rugar Hardo Alhaji Mohammed on the outskirts of Bakori town.
According to the sources, the attackers rustled about 65 cows before fleeing the area.
The troops in collaboration with the Divisional Police Officer in Bakori mobilised tactical teams, including the Vigilante Crime Response Unit (VCRU), were deployed to engage the attackers.
A brief exchange of fire ensued, forcing the rustlers to abandon the stolen livestock, which reportedly scattered into nearby bushes due to the intensity of the confrontation.
Security sources confirmed that the area has since been cordoned off as clearance operations continue to recover the dispersed animals and track down the fleeing suspects.
Authorities said additional patrols have been deployed across likely escape routes, while efforts are ongoing to restore normalcy and strengthen security in the affected community.
Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies.
