By Zagazola Makama
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have foiled an attempted armed robbery along the Hawan Kibo–Rafin Sanyi road in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on July 22, when troops of Sector 6 responded to reports that suspected armed robbers had blocked the highway and were attacking motorists.
The sources said the troops swiftly mobilised to the scene and made contact with the fleeing criminals.
On sighting the advancing troops, the suspects abandoned the operation and escaped into the surrounding bush, preventing them from carrying out further attacks on road users.
Military sources said efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, while security has been reinforced along the route to prevent a recurrence.
The swift response by the troops is part of Operation Enduring Peace continued efforts to protect lives and property, secure major highways, and deny criminal elements freedom of action across Plateau State.
