Troops of Sector 1, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), have foiled a suspected kidnapping attempt at the residence of the late Gen. Bagudos in the Jebbu Bassa area of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on Sept. 9, when troops responded to a distress report on an attempted kidnapping at the residence.
Military sources said the troops, supported by personnel from the 3 Division Garrison and Keystone Bassa Division, swiftly mobilised to the location, forcing the suspected kidnappers to abandon their mission and flee.
The suspects, believed to be armed Fulani herders, reportedly escaped from the area following the arrival of the security personnel.
However, one of the suspects was subsequently arrested and is currently being interrogated to obtain information that could lead to the arrest of other fleeing members of the criminal group.
Security forces have intensified efforts to track down the remaining suspects and prevent further criminal activities in the area.
