Troops of Sector 4, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), have launched a manhunt for suspected attackers following the killing of a 26-year-old man around a mining site by local criminals in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The incident occurred at about 2:45 p.m. on Sept. 10 around Jong village in Dorowa Babuje District.
Military sources said the troops responded to a report of an attack and killing of the victim, identified as Mr Tokare Davou.
Upon arrival at the location, the troops discovered the victim’s body bearing gunshot wounds, while the suspected attackers had fled the area.
Zagazola reports that attacks on mining sites have been on the rise, with rival miners allegedly targeting one another over competition for control of mining areas and access to valuable mineral resources.
The troops have commenced offensive operations and a manhunt for the fleeing criminals within the Dorowa Babuje general area, as efforts continue to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing.
