Troops of Sector 4 under Operation Safe Haven have intervened in a farmland destruction incident involving cattle grazing in Rakwok village, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau state.
Security sources said the incident occurred on April 18 at about 1232 hrs when troops at Kafi Abu guard location responded to a distress report of cattle straying into farmlands in the community.
On arrival, troops reportedly found 14 cattle grazing unattended on cultivated farmland within the village.
The cattle were moved to a secure location by troops to prevent further destruction, while efforts were initiated to identify and locate the owners of the livestock.
Security sources said both parties involved in the incident were later invited for dialogue and possible settlement in order to prevent escalation of tensions in the area.
Authorities noted that the intervention was part of ongoing measures to address farmer-herder-related disputes and maintain peaceful coexistence in affected communities.
Troops have continued monitoring the general area to ensure that calm is sustained and to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
