Troops arrest seven suspected terrorists in Benue clearance operation

Makurdi, April 19, 2026 – Troops under Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested seven suspected terrorists during an offensive operation in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
Security sources said the operation was conducted on April 17 at about 1000 hrs at Amila Icho and Chito communities following intelligence on suspected terrorist presence in the area.
The troops reportedly apprehended seven suspects within the general area.
The suspects were subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Otukpo Area Command, for further investigation and necessary action.
Security authorities said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to flush out criminal elements and deny them freedom of movement within the state.
They added that troops have continued patrols and surveillance in the area to consolidate gains and prevent further security threats.
