Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised a suspected terrorist during an ambush operation along the Kirawa–Gwadele axis in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 6:43 p.m. on March 23 when troops of the 82 Division Task Force Battalion, in collaboration with volunteer forces, laid an ambush at a crossing point along the road leading towards Atagara.
According to the sources, the troops made contact with an unconfirmed number of suspected fighters belonging to the Islamic State West Africa Province and Boko Haram.
“The troops immediately engaged the terrorists, neutralising one of them, while others fled into the surrounding area,” the source said.
The troops subsequently carried out exploitation of the general area to track the fleeing insurgents, but no further contact was made.
Military sources said the operation underscores ongoing efforts by troops to dominate key routes and deny insurgents freedom of movement in the Gwoza axis.
