Troops neutralise terrorists, recover items in Gwoza ambush

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, have neutralised two Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists during an ambush operation around Hudugum village in the Hambagda area, along the Gwoza–Limankara road in Borno State.

 

The operation, conducted under Operation Desert Sanity IV/Diligent Search, was carried out by troops of 192 Battalion (Main) in conjunction with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

 

Sources told Zagazola Makama  that the troops made contact with the terrorists’ logistics elements at about 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday and engaged them with superior firepower.

 

According to the sources, two terrorists were neutralised while several others fled in disarray towards the foothills of the Mandara Mountains with possible gunshot wounds.

 

“There was no casualty on the side of own troops. No equipment was lost during the encounter,” the sources stated.

 

During a subsequent exploitation of the area, the troops recovered three bicycles, six pieces of wrappers, four containers of Vaseline, one torchlight, one small solar panel, four mats, six pieces of fabric, two blankets, one sachet of salt, one sachet of white seasoning, two pairs of shorts, one white singlet, one portion of bush meat and two phone cases.

 

The operation was described as “hitch-free”, with the troops returning safely to base around 7:50 p.m.

 

The sources added that further exploitation of the terrorists’ withdrawal routes would be conducted at first light, noting that the general security situation in the area remains calm but unpredictable.

 

It also said that the morale and fighting efficiency of the troops remain high.
