Troops of 34 Artillery Brigade have neutralised three members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN) during a clearance operation in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
A statement by the Nigerian Army on Wednesday said the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of the militants at a known crossing point used for illicit activities.
After a fierce gun duel, the troops subdued the armed men and recovered one AK-47 rifle, two magazines loaded with 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a pump-action rifle, two BAOFENG communication radios and an improvised explosive device (IED) battery.
The Army said the operation disrupted the coordination hub of the separatist group in the area and reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace in the South-East region.
