Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Fansan Yamma have nutrialised several bandits during a fighting patrol along the Dansadau–Magami road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Security sources said the encounter occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on March 14 when troops of 1 Brigade encountered a group of armed terrorists at Mashayar Zaki village while conducting routine fighting patrols in the area.

According to the sources, the troops immediately engaged the terrorists, forcing them to retreat after sustaining casualties.

“The terrorists fled the scene after troops responded with superior firepower. Several of the criminals were neutralised during the engagement,” the source said.

The troops subsequently pursued the fleeing attackers into surrounding areas but did not make further contact.

During exploitation of the area, the troops discovered the bodies of three civilians who had reportedly been killed by the fleeing terrorists.

The remains of the victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Dansadau for further necessary procedures.

Military authorities said troops have continued to dominate the general area through patrols to prevent the regrouping of the fleeing terrorists and to reassure residents of their safety.
