Troops of the Nigerian Army have responded to a reported terrorist attack on Ilwata and Manir villages in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Security sources disclosed that troops of the 114 Battalion (Rear), deployed at Forward Operating Base Karim Lamido, moved into the affected communities at about 6:30 a.m. on May 31 following a distress call from residents.

According to the sources, troops arrived to find the villages deserted, prompting immediate patrols and area domination operations extending about two kilometres from Ilwata Village.

Further information from local residents indicated that the attackers killed one person and injured two others during the raid on Ilwata community.

The sources said the corpse of the deceased victim was evacuated by the police, while the injured persons were taken to the Karim Lamido Medical Centre for treatment.

Security forces have since intensified patrols in the general area in an effort to track down the attackers and prevent further incidents.

A security source said troops are maintaining a strong presence in the affected communities to reassure residents and restore normalcy.

“The situation is under control, and operations are ongoing to prevent further attacks,” the source said.

Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information to aid ongoing operations.
