Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, in collaboration with other joint security operatives, have foiled a bandit attack and recovered livestock rustled from two communities in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State after engaging the attackers in a gun battle.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 10:17 p.m. on July 14 when heavily armed bandits, riding on about 11 motorcycles, parked at Ganga Bakwai Village in Faskari Local Government Area before crossing into neighbouring Bakori LGA.

According to the sources, the bandits invaded Unguwar Dutse and Gidan Alhaji Jafaru villages, where they rustled four cows and 50 sheep belonging to local residents.

On receiving the distress report, troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, alongside operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, military personnel and members of the Community Watch Corps, swiftly mobilised to the area.

The joint security team strategically blocked the bandits’ escape routes and intercepted the fleeing attackers, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.

Security sources said the bandits, overwhelmed by the superior firepower of the troops, abandoned the four cows and 50 sheep and fled into the surrounding bush with suspected gunshot wounds.

All the recovered livestock were returned to their rightful owners.

The sources added that clearance operations are ongoing to track down and apprehend the fleeing bandits, while security has been reinforced across the affected communities to prevent further attacks and sustain the gains recorded by the operation.
