Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robber, Recover Locally Made Firearm in Ebonyi

Operatives of the Ebonyi State Police Command have arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a locally made firearm during an intelligence-led operation in Ezza North Local Government Area of the state.
Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect, identified as Emeka Oke, was apprehended at about 3:00 p.m. on July 14 by operatives of the Village Crime Response Unit (VCRU) while on patrol in the Ezza North axis.
The sources said the operation followed actionable intelligence indicating that the suspect was in unlawful possession of a firearm.
Acting swiftly on the information, the operatives tracked and arrested the suspect without incident.
A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally made double-barrel pistol loaded with one live cartridge.
Police sources described the suspect as a suspected armed robber and said he is currently in custody assisting investigators.
The Ebonyi State Police Command said a comprehensive investigation is underway to identify and arrest other members of the suspect’s alleged criminal gang, while efforts are also being made to determine whether the recovered firearm had been used in previous criminal activities.
The suspect is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
