Troops Raid Illegal Mining Site in FCT, Arrest 13 Suspects

Troops under Operation MESA have conducted a raid on an illegal mining site at Iddah in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), arresting 13 suspects and recovering several items used for mining activities.
Security sources disclosed that the operation was carried out at about 11:00 a.m. on May 22 by troops of 7 Guards Battalion as part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal mining and related criminal activities within the FCT.
According to the sources, troops recovered two motorcycles, 27 shovels, 32 head pans, four hoes, one pumping machine, two diggers and three filter hoses from the site.
The illegal mining camp and associated hideouts were subsequently destroyed during the operation.
The suspects are currently in custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.
