Vigilantes Hand Over Fake Recruitment Racketeer to Troops in Taraba

Vigilantes in Bantaje village, Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State, have arrested a suspected job racketeer who allegedly defrauded several civilians under the guise of securing enlistment into the Nigerian Army.

 

Security sources disclosed that the suspect was apprehended at about 10:30 a.m. on May 22 and subsequently handed over to troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Wukari for further investigation.

 

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to collecting ₦3,607,000 from six civilians, claiming the funds were meant to facilitate their recruitment into the Nigerian Army.

 

He was further reported to have implicated his younger brother, identified as Warrant Officer Moses Yadeh, a serving personnel of the Nigerian Army, as having directed him to collect money from civilians as recruitment fees.

 

Troops recovered one mobile phone and ₦3,050 from the suspect during the operation.

 

The suspect and recovered items are currently in military custody while investigations are ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the alleged fraud and possible involvement of other individuals.

 

Security authorities have warned members of the public against falling victim to fraudulent recruitment schemes, reiterating that enlistment into the Nigerian Armed Forces is free and strictly based on merit and due process.
