Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have recovered rustled livestock after intercepting suspected bandits in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Security sources said the troops of 11 Field Engineer Regiment, in collaboration with local vigilantes, responded to reports at about 2:58 a.m. on March 16 of armed bandits moving livestock from Danja Local Government Area of Katsina State through Giwa axis.

Further intelligence indicated that additional armed bandits on motorcycles were advancing towards Yakawada to reinforce their cohorts and escort the stolen cattle.

Troops were reinforced and intercepted the bandits in the bush around Old Giwa, forcing them to abandon the livestock and flee.

However, fleeing bandits reportedly attacked Saftawa village, where one civilian was killed.

Troops recovered 108 cattle and 16 sheep, which were subsequently handed over to their rightful owners.

Military authorities said operations are ongoing to track the fleeing suspects and prevent further attacks in the area.
