Troops of Combat Team 2, deployed at Sheme in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, in collaboration with local vigilantes, have recovered 180 rustled cattle following a gun duel with suspected terrorists.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation was conducted at about 2:50 p.m. on May 8, 2026, after troops responded to a distress call from the Nigeria Police about the movement of armed terrorists with suspected rustled livestock.

The troops reportedly made contact with the suspects between Ruwan Godiya and Sheme villages in Faskari LGA, leading to a brief exchange of fire.

The armed suspects were forced to abandon the rustled cattle and fled into nearby bushes under superior firepower.

A total of 180 cattle were recovered during the operation and are currently in military custody for further action and identification of rightful owners.

Military authorities said follow-up operations are ongoing to track and dismantle the criminal networks behind repeated cattle rustling in the area.
