Troops of Sector 1 Operation Forest Yaki (OPFY) have arrested a suspected terrorist during a snap checkpoint operation in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspect was intercepted at about 6:04 p.m. on May 8, 2026, by troops deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Dogon Dawa, while conducting a stop-and-search operation at Damari axis.

According to the sources, the suspect was riding on a motorcycle when he was apprehended in possession of one AK-47 magazine, three mobile phones, quantities of Cannabis Sativa and other items suspected to be linked to criminal activity.

Preliminary investigation reportedly revealed incriminating photographs on the suspect’s phone showing him dressed in military-style uniform and holding an AK-47 rifle.

The suspect and recovered exhibits are currently in military custody for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Military authorities said the arrest underscores ongoing efforts to disrupt terrorist mobility, logistics networks and criminal support systems across Kaduna’s forest corridors.
