Troops of Sector 4, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have recovered 20 cows and 10 sheep following a reported farm encroachment and assault incident at Marit Village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 4:04 p.m. on Oct. 5, when troops responded to a report that Fulani herders had allegedly entered and destroyed crops belonging to a farmer, Mr Monday Musa.
The troops, upon arrival at the location, found Musa injured after he reportedly attempted to drive the herders out of his farm.
The troops subsequently intercepted 20 cows and 10 sheep, while the herders reportedly fled the area.
The recovered livestock were moved to a safe location for further necessary action, while the injured farmer was evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Further investigations are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify the fleeing herders.
