Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have recovered an AK-47 rifle during a cordon and search operation in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Security sources said the operation, conducted on March 21, was based on credible intelligence regarding the activities of a suspected arms supplier operating within the Kente–Chinkai general area.
The sources disclosed that troops of Sector 3 OPWS, operating from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Wukari, in collaboration with a local informant, swiftly mobilised to the suspected location.
“During the operation, troops conducted a thorough cordon and search of a suspected arms cache in Chinkai general area, leading to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with a magazine,” the sources said.
They added that the recovered weapon was currently in military custody.
Sources said that the operation formed part of sustained efforts by security forces to disrupt the proliferation of illegal arms and deny criminal elements the means to perpetrate violence in the region.
