Troops under Operation MESA have recovered ammunition, weapons and cash during a raid operation on a suspected hideout of armed hoodlums linked to a communal dispute between Erin and Ilobu towns in Irepodun Local Government Area of Osun State.

Sources said  that the operation, though reported belatedly, was conducted at about 9:00 p.m. on March 30 by troops of the ECC following intelligence on criminal elements exploiting the ongoing land dispute in the area.

The source said the suspects fled the scene before the arrival of troops.

He added that troops conducted a thorough exploitation of the general area and recovered three rounds of 9mm ammunition, seven cartridges for a shotgun, two cutlasses, one axe, and the sum of ₦77,800, among other items.

According to him, the recovered items are currently in the custody of the troops for further investigation and necessary action.

He noted that Operation MESA continues to support civil authorities in maintaining peace and preventing criminal elements from taking advantage of communal tensions.

Residents were urged to remain law-abiding and report suspicious movements to security agencies.
