Troops Recover Body of Missing Man During Search Operation in Plateau

 Troops of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have recovered the body of a 35-year-old man who was reported missing after going into a forest to fetch firewood in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

 

Security sources said the troops responded at about 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday following a report that the victim, identified as Iliya Gyang Sharu, had failed to return home after leaving to cut firewood on high ground around Gwom Tahoss in Riyom LGA.

 

According to the sources, the troops immediately launched a search and rescue operation in the area to trace the missing man.

 

During the operation, the search team discovered the victim’s lifeless body in a bush on the high ground.

 

The corpse was subsequently evacuated to the General Hospital mortuary in Riyom for preservation pending further procedures.

 

Security sources said investigations had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and identify those responsible, if foul play is established.

 

The military assured residents that it would continue working with other security agencies and members of the community to unravel the circumstances of the incident and sustain efforts aimed at protecting lives and property across the area.
