Troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered several weapons and arrested two suspected cultists following a cordon and search operation in Odonget community, Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Security sources said the operation was conducted at about 9:00 a.m. on March 15 as a follow-up to a terrorist ambush on troops of the 245 Battalion Nigerian Army in the area on March 12.
During the operation, troops reportedly recovered five locally made weapons, two long-barrel Dane guns, two locally made pistols, and 35 live cartridges.
Two suspects, alleged to be members of a local cult group, were also apprehended during the search.
Security sources said the suspects and recovered items were currently in military custody for further investigation and prosecution.
Military authorities reiterated their commitment to continuous clearance operations and cordon-and-search patrols to deny criminals and insurgents freedom of movement in Obubra and surrounding communities.
