Troops of Sector 5, Operation Udo Ka, have repelled an ambush and encountered improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during a fighting patrol in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

A security source said the operation was conducted at about 9:45 a.m. on March 27 around communities within the Mother Valley axis, including Eziorsu, Umuezeani and Eketutu.

The source disclosed that the patrol team came under fire from suspected IPOB/ESN elements and also encountered multiple IED threats along the route.

“Troops engaged the terrorists and forced them to withdraw from their positions,” the source said.

He added that although no casualties were recorded, fragments from an IED reportedly punctured a tyre of a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle during the encounter.

The source, however, said the operation was concluded successfully and described it as “hitch-free” despite the threats encountered.

He reaffirmed that troops have continued sustained clearance and patrol operations aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of action in the area.
