Troops Repel Ambush, Neutralise Two Attackers in Kwara

Troops of 22 Brigade under Operation Savannah Shield have repelled an ambush by suspected terrorists during a fighting patrol in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

 

Security sources said the incident occurred at about 11:40 a.m. on April 29 near Shitoun village when the troops came under sudden attack.

 

The sources disclosed that the troops responded with superior firepower and successfully fought through the ambush, engaging the attackers in a gun battle.

 

According to the sources, two of the attackers were neutralised during the encounter, while troops recovered two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and three mobile phones, among other items.

 

They added that one officer sustained injuries during the exchange and has been evacuated for medical attention.

 

The sources noted that follow-up operations are ongoing to track fleeing suspects and secure the general area.
