Soldier Shoots Security Officer During Altercation in Keffi, Investigation Underway

Troops of the 177 Guards Battalion deployed at Keffi Patrol Base under Operation MESA have reported an incident involving a shooting during an altercation between a soldier and a Chief Security Officer (CSO) of Princess Sarah Hotel in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 3:40 a.m. on April 9, 2026, during a night patrol when troops encountered a dispute involving the CSO and a commercial motorcyclist.
The CSO, who was said to be a dismissed soldier, had reportedly arrested the motorcyclist before the arrival of the patrol team.
According to the sources, a soldier attempted to intervene on behalf of the motorcyclist when the situation escalated. The CSO allegedly slapped the soldier and attempted to disarm him by grabbing his rifle.
In the course of the struggle, the CSO was shot and immediately evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, for medical attention.
Authorities said the circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation to determine the full details of what transpired.
