Troops of Operation UDO KA have repelled an attack on a vigilante group in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and recovered ammunition during a follow-up operation.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 11:45 a.m. on April 7 when troops of Sector 2 deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Ivo responded to reports of an attack by suspected armed assailants.
On arrival, the troops engaged the attackers in a firefight, forcing them to retreat from the scene.
The troops subsequently conducted a pursuit operation using foot tracking and observed blood stains along the attackers’ withdrawal route, indicating possible casualties.
However, no further contact was made with the fleeing suspects.
Items recovered during the operation include two rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition and four expended shell casings.
Security sources said troops have continued to maintain presence in the area to prevent further attacks and track down the perpetrators.
