Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an early morning attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Azir, a community in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing an unconfirmed number of insurgents.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the terrorists launched the attack around 4:30 a.m., attempting to overrun the military formation stationed in the area.

The troops, however, responded swiftly with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to flee in disarray, leaving behind their bodies.

“The insurgents came in large numbers but met stiff resistance from our troops. We killed several of them, though the exact number is yet to be confirmed. Others fled with gunshot wounds,” one of the sources said.

The source added that the soldiers were able to maintain control of the location and are currently conducting mop-up operations in the surrounding bush to apprehend any fleeing remnants.

No casualty was recorded on the side of the military, while the situation has since been brought under control.
