The Troops of the Nigerian Army Sector 3 deployed under Operation Hadin Kai have repelled a large-scale attack by ISWAP terrorists on an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Mallam Fatori, Borno State.

Zagazola Makama gathered that the attack occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, when over 150 terrorists launched a coordinated assault on troops position from the Kaniram axis.

It was gathered that the terrorists advanced on foot, firing Automatic Grenade Launchers (AGLs) and deploying armed drones toward the battalion’s main defensive area.

The troops reportedly responded swiftly by engaging the terrorists with mortar and tank fire, targeting their avenues of approach from the western flank.

According to the report, “following an extensive firefight that lasted for about four hours, the terrorists managed to breach a section of the IDP camp perimeter.”

However, troops quickly regrouped and counter-engaged the infiltrating terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat in disarray.

The sources confirmed that the attack was successfully repelled and the situation brought under control.

So far, 12 terrorists have been confirmed killed, while troops recovered seven AK-47 rifles, three general purpose machine guns (GPMGs), and two rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) along with several explosive devices from the attackers.

Assessment of own casualties was still ongoing at the time of filing this report.

The sources added that the general security situation in the area remains fluid, but troops have been placed on maximum alert to prevent further incursions.
