Troops of 1 Brigade, Combat Team 6, have rescued 31 kidnapped victims during a patrol operation along Bagega–Kawaye road in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Security sources said the rescue operation took place at about 6:33 a.m. on May 28 when the troops intercepted the victims while conducting a patrol in the area.
According to the sources, the victims had reportedly spent several weeks in captivity under suspected terrorist groups operating within the forested areas of Zamfara State.
It was gathered that the victims escaped following an air interdiction mission carried out by a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) helicopter gunship in the western part of Bagega forest.
The sources added that the rescued victims were subsequently intercepted and secured by ground troops during follow-up patrols in the area.
Efforts, according to security authorities, are ongoing to ensure the victims are reunited with their families after necessary medical and security procedures.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining coordinated ground and air operations to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace in Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.
