Troops rescue 42-year-old abductee escaping from captors in Borno

Troops of 82 Division Task Force Battalion have rescued a 42-year-old woman who escaped from her captors in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the woman, identified as Mrs Zainab Huftar, was rescued at about 10:15 a.m. on Sept. 2, 2026, during a perimeter patrol around Armuda Bridge.
The troops reportedly sighted the woman while she was fleeing from her captors and immediately mobilised to rescue her.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that Huftar was from Chinene and had been married to a man identified as Yakubu Zamga, who was reportedly believed to be a member of Boko Haram.
The rescued woman reportedly told the troops that she escaped from Chinene because of severe hunger and starvation.
She is currently receiving necessary assistance as efforts are ongoing to reunite her with her family members.
The latest rescue brings the total number of victims rescued through the Gwoza East corridor to 147.
The development highlights the continued efforts by troops operating in the area to rescue persons held by terrorist groups and facilitate their safe return to their families.
