Troops of Operation Enduring Peace, under Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), have rescued four victims abducted by suspected kidnappers along the Hawan Kibo–Rafin Sanyi Road in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on June 27 when troops of Sector 6, deployed at the Sector Operational Patrol Post (SOPP), received a distress report on the activities of suspected kidnappers operating along the route.
The troops immediately mobilised to the scene, where they discovered an abandoned vehicle in the middle of the road with no occupants inside.
Further enquiries revealed that six occupants of the vehicle had been abducted by the armed criminals before the arrival of the security forces.
The troops promptly launched a search-and-rescue operation into the surrounding bushes, leading to the successful rescue of four of the kidnapped victims.
Military sources said efforts are ongoing to locate and safely rescue the remaining two victims, while troops have continued to comb the surrounding forests and possible escape routes used by the kidnappers.
The sources added that security operations have been intensified across the area to deny criminal elements freedom of movement and enhance the safety of commuters along the corridor.
