Two arrested for allegedly assaulting DPO, obstructing police duty in Kwara

Two suspects have been arrested for allegedly obstructing police officers, resisting arrest and assaulting a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) during a disturbance at a police station.

Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 7:14 p.m. on July 23, when one Sesan Tolu allegedly caused a commotion and harassed police personnel at the station’s charge room.

According to the sources, officers moved to arrest Tolu over his alleged conduct when another suspect, Sebastian Babatunde, who had earlier been brought to the station over a case of alleged malicious damage to the economic crops of one Ismail at Ijaperin Village, reportedly resisted the arrest and obstructed police officers from carrying out their duty.

The situation reportedly escalated despite attempts by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Adejuwon Morakinyo, and detectives to restore calm.

Police said Babatunde allegedly attacked the DPO without provocation, striking him in the face and damaging his prescription glasses valued at ₦90,000.

The two suspects were eventually subdued by officers and taken into custody.

They are being investigated for alleged conspiracy, resisting arrest, obstruction of police duty, serious assault on a senior police officer and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

Police sources said the suspects will be arraigned before a competent court upon the conclusion of investigations.
