Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested five suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during an operation in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that the operation, which was carried out on July 23 but reported later, took place at about 9:30 a.m. when troops of 34 Artillery Brigade mounted surveillance at Etuekwa Left in Orsu LGA.

According to the sources, the troops intercepted and apprehended the five suspects at a secluded location believed to be a movement corridor frequently used by IPOB/ESN operatives.

The suspects were taken into custody for further interrogation to determine their identities, roles and possible involvement in the activities of the separatist group.

Military sources said the operation forms part of sustained efforts by security forces to dismantle IPOB/ESN networks, disrupt their movement routes and enhance security across the South-East.
