Workers of the Obudu Cattle Ranch Resort in Cross River on July 1 staged a peaceful protest over the non-payment of five months’ salary arrears.
Police sources said credible intelligence received at about 1:15 p.m. indicated that workers had gathered at the resort to demand payment of their outstanding salaries.
The sources said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Obanliku immediately led officers from the Utanga Police Post and other personnel to the resort to monitor the situation and ensure law and order.
According to the sources, the protesting workers locked the main entrance to the resort and demanded to meet with the Special Assistant to the Government on the ranch resort to negotiate a resolution to their grievances.
The official was, however, unavailable at the time of the protest.
The sources said the demonstration remained peaceful throughout, with no damage to government property or injuries recorded.
They added that the protesters later dispersed peacefully to their respective homes after security personnel monitored the situation.
