Police Investigate Woman’s Mysterious Death in Church Toilet in Calabar

The Police Command in Cross River has commenced an investigation into the death of a woman whose body was found in a church toilet in Calabar.

 

Police sources said the incident was reported at the Federal Housing Police Station on July 1 by Peace Minka Ayebe, who said she received information from her elder brother, Saviour Ayebe, regarding the death of their mother, Blessing Ayebe.

 

The sources said the deceased had attended a service at the Presbyterian Church, Ikot Ansa Parish, on June 28 but did not return home.

 

According to the report, she remained missing until about 9:00 p.m. on June 29 when she was found lifeless in the church toilet.

 

The sources said the victim was evacuated to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), where she was confirmed dead before her remains were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

 

Police detectives who visited the scene and the hospital observed no visible marks of violence on the body.

 

The sources added that investigations had commenced to determine the cause and circumstances surrounding the death.
