Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has presented staff of office and official vehicles to 19 newly coronated emirs, comprising 11 first-class and eight second-class traditional rulers.

The coronation and presentation ceremony took place at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau, the state capital, with the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe and the Emir of Gwandu among dignitaries in attendance.

Following their oaths of office, the governor presented staff of office to the traditional rulers, formally conferring on them the authority to administer their respective emirates.

Each of the 19 emirs also received a GAC Ultra SUV, a Mikano ZNA Hilux vehicle and an EV Antique Model car (DDP), intended to facilitate official movements and strengthen engagement with their communities.

In his remarks, Governor Lawal said the ceremony reflected his administration’s recognition of the traditional institution as an enduring pillar of society and an important partner in promoting peace, stability and development.

He said the staff of office represented the authority entrusted to the emirs by the state government, alongside the responsibility to govern their respective domains with fairness, wisdom, integrity and compassion.
“The staff of office being presented today signifies the authority entrusted to you by the State,” the governor said.

Lawal urged the traditional rulers to discharge their responsibilities without discrimination, uphold justice and ensure that their institutions remained accessible to all members of their communities.

He said residents should continue to find guidance, fairness and reassurance in their traditional rulers, particularly in addressing community concerns and promoting peaceful coexistence.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the remaining royal palaces, describing the initiative as part of efforts to strengthen traditional institutions and improve the conditions under which the rulers carry out their duties.

On the official vehicles, Lawal said the provision was intended to facilitate movement across the emirates, encourage closer engagement with residents and improve coordination between traditional institutions and government agencies.

He urged the emirs to maintain the vehicles properly and use them responsibly in support of their official responsibilities.
The governor further called for a productive partnership between the emirates and the state government to advance peace, security and development across Zamfara.

Earlier, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, urged the newly coronated emirs to remain loyal to constituted authority and uphold the dignity of the traditional institution.

The Sultan also encouraged the rulers to discharge their responsibilities with commitment while preserving the integrity and relevance of the institution.
The statement was issued on October 31, 2026, by Sulaiman Bala Idris, spokesperson for the Zamfara State Governor.
