11 victims kidnapped by ISWAP regain freedom in Damasak, Borno

Eleven residents of Kinnari Village in Damasak, Borno State, who were kidnapped by suspected Islamic State of the West African Province(ISWAP) terrorists, have regained their freedom.
Sources told Zagazola Makama, that the victims, including a 40-year-old man identified as Tela Bamari, were abducted in the early hours of July 31 at about 12:40 a.m. by armed insurgents who stormed the village.
A reliable source from the community said the victims were released on the night of Aug. 2, around 10:30 p.m., following efforts by local stakeholders and humanitarian actors who intervened quietly in the matter.
Upon their release, the victims were immediately subjected to medical examination and debriefed.
The Borno State Committee for Victims of Terrorism was on ground to receive them and ensured their safe return to their respective families.
Zagazola cannot confirm if ransom was paid for their release but community members expressed relief and gratitude over the safe return of the abductees, while calls for enhanced security and vigilance in border communities continue.
