Concerns are mounting in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State following the disappearance of a Fulani herder whose cattle were discovered roaming unattended on a farmland.

Security sources said the incident was reported at about 6:10 p.m. on April 27, when troops of Sector 6, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), responded to a distress call from Tahoss community regarding destruction of a farm.

On arrival, the troops reportedly intercepted 26 cattle grazing freely on the farmland without any herder in sight, raising suspicions about the whereabouts of the owner.

Sources indicated that preliminary findings suggest the herder may have been attacked, lynched, or forced to flee under unclear circumstances around the same time the cattle strayed into the farm.

The troops subsequently secured the livestock and moved them to a military location for further necessary action, while efforts are ongoing to trace the missing herder and ascertain the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

Security patrols have been intensified in the area amid fears of escalating tensions, as authorities seek to prevent further incidents and ensure accountability.
