The Commander of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), Maj. Gen. W.M. Dangana, has rewarded a soldier, Private Utim Terwase, with ₦500,000 for rejecting a bribe offered by a suspected notorious kidnapper.

The reward followed an incident reported by Sector 6 of OPEP on September 5, 2026, involving the arrest of suspected kidnappers. During the operation, one of the suspects reportedly attempted to escape but was apprehended by Terwase.

Security sources said the suspect subsequently offered the soldier ₦500,000 to secure his release, but Terwase rejected the offer and handed him over to the appropriate authorities.

In recognition of the soldier's honesty, discipline and commitment to duty, the Commander of OPEP, represented by the Sector 6 Commander, presented him with a cash reward of ₦500,000.

The gesture, according to the sources, reflects Maj. Gen. Dangana's command philosophy of rewarding professionalism, dedication and integrity among personnel.

Other soldiers were also encouraged to uphold the highest standards of professional conduct and demonstrate similar commitment to duty, particularly in resisting corruption and refusing attempts to compromise security operations.
