Armed hoodlums, suspected to be members of the proscribed IPOB/ESN militia, attacked a brothel near Uli town in Awka on the evening of May 17, 2025, killing a soldier and a young boy, while a young woman was injured by stray bullets.

The incident occurred at about 9:00 p.m. at “Uru Di Ya” brothel close to Uli center. The attackers, operating in two unidentified vehicles, opened fire, killing the soldier on duty and an unidentified little boy. A young woman caught in the gunfire was admitted to hospital, stabilized, and is responding to treatment.

A joint police and vigilante team quickly responded, but the assailants fled the scene before they arrived.

The deceased soldier’s AK-47 rifle was recovered by a vigilante witness and handed over to the Army Captain leading counterterrorism operations in the area.
