Bandits Kill One, Injure Village Head in Katsina Highway Attack

Armed bandits ambushed motorists along Kwanar Danya-Safana-Runka Road in Katsina State, killing one person and injuring a village head before fleeing into the bush after a gun battle with security forces.

 

 

Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama that the attack, which occurred at about 6:10 p.m. on Saturday. The assailants, armed with sophisticated weapons, blocked the highway and opened fire on passing vehicles.

 

One of the victims, identified as Malam Ibrahim Dutsinma, also known as “3-3,” was shot in the chest, while Murtala Muhammad, the Village Head of Runka, sustained a gunshot graze to the head.

 

Security forces were immediately deployed to the scene, engaging the bandits in a firefight, forcing them to retreat into the surrounding bush. 

 

The injured victims were rushed to the Community Health Centre in Runka and later transferred to the General Hospital in Dutsinma, where Malam Ibrahim was confirmed dead.

 

Security operatives have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing bandits, while patrols have been reinforced along the affected route to prevent further attacks.
