Armed bandits have killed a 60-year-old man and razed parts of a property during an attack on Gidan Wando village in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 7:06 p.m. on April 28 when heavily armed bandits, riding on about 17 motorcycles, stormed the community and opened fire indiscriminately.
The sources disclosed that joint security teams, including military personnel and local vigilance groups, responded promptly and engaged the attackers in a sustained gun battle, forcing them to retreat and restoring calm to the area.
According to the sources, a stray bullet from the attackers fatally struck the victim, identified as Alhaji Sabiu Mohammed, and ignited a fire at his farm produce shop, which spread to two adjoining rooms.
They added that the fire was later extinguished through combined efforts of responders and residents, while the victim was evacuated to a health facility where he was confirmed dead.
Security patrols have since been intensified in the area, with ongoing efforts to track and apprehend the fleeing attackers.
